Indicative Style: Tim Burton-s Cinematic World
Tim Burton was born in Burbank, California. His mother owned a cat-themed gift shop; his father worked for the local Parks and Recreation Department. Who would have ever guessed Tim Burton would produce, direct and write some of the most remarkable movies of all time? Such humble beginnings fostered the development of his crafty imagination and eccentric taste. His style is all his own, not to be imitated by anyone in Hollywood. He has Johnny Depp on board, as indicated by his appearances in several Burton films: “Ed Wood,” “ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Edward Scissorhands” to name just a few. It may shock some to learn Tim Burton worked on “The Fox and the Hound” early in his career, as well as “The Black Cauldron.” These mainstream Disney children’s films do not quite seem to fit what Burton is best at: the strange. He did an absolutely amazing adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” in 2010, again working with Johnny Depp who played the truly Mad Hatter. Burton worked on a couple of the Batman movies, which were popular but did not satisfy Burton’s creativity as much as he would have liked. He has a bit of a dark and macabre style with a twisted sense of humor mixed in, taking on a gloomy feel much like Edgar Allen Poe. While many of Burton’s works are not suitable for small children, he has a true knack for animation. An artist at heart describes Burton well, while movies are a passion which stemmed from his truly gifted imagination. Burton’s films have a range of appeal with hits like “Beetlejuice,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and the upcoming “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” Did you know Tim Burton produced the big hit “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure”? The expectations of this film’s box office performance were far exceeded as the film grossed over 40 million. Tim Burton is awe inspiring and should be studied for decades to come as an amazing, talented artist. The information doesn-t stop now.
